Prof. dr hab. Gertruda Uścińska, Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, took part in the 50th anniversary of the Main Library of Labor and Social Security. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy and representatives of cooperating libraries, universities and institutions.
The Main Library of Labor and Social Security was established on January 1, 1974, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers adopted on January 5, 1974. It was given the status of a socio-economic library. Currently, it is an independent budgetary unit, supervised by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy. The purpose of the institution is to carry out library, bibliographic, information, research and publishing activities, meeting the information needs of the ministry’s employees, scientific and teaching institutions, and members of trade unions and social organizations.
The library is comprised of two departments: Department of Labor and Social Security Collections and Department of Collections for the Blind. It has a unique collection of publications on various aspects of labor -economic, legal, social, psychological, sociological, social policy and related issues. The institution cooperates with other institutes, libraries and scientific information centers focused on socio-economic field, as well as with state and non-state universities.
