DeepSeek-R1: Chinese answer to OpenAI

DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence developer, unveiled an open version of the DeepSeek-R1 language model. The manufacturer claims that its solution is superior to the OpenAI tool.

According to the developers’ statement, the cost of training the DeepSeek-R1 model is only $5 million. DeepSeek-R1 is completely free and open-source. In comparison, OpenAI o1 is a closed and proprietary model, available through paid access ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro.

DeepSeek-R1 is available on the AI Hugging Face platform under the MIT license, which means it can be used commercially without restrictions.
