Prof. Gertruda Uścińska became new acting rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School (SGMK), succeeding in this position Prof. Fabrizio Gulimondi.

Gertruda Uścińska is a lawyer, political scientist, professor of Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw and a lecturer at many universities in Poland and abroad, with several decades of experience. She is Head of the Center for Social Security Studies, University of Warsaw, as well as member of two UW Academic Councils: to the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies and to the Disciplines of Administrative Political Science and Security Science. 

Previously, Prof. Uścińka served as Vice Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw (2012 to 2016), as well as member of the WDINP Academic Teacher Evaluation Committee (2008-2012), the Senate Committee on Students, Doctoral Students and Educational Quality (2012-2016), and Chair of the Panel for Doctoral Dissertations in Public Policy Science (2017-2019). 

She is an internationally recognized authority in the field of labor law, social security, coordination of security systems and freedom of movement, currently holding important positions in many domestic and international public institutions, including: Chair of the Committee on Labor and Social Policy Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Chair of the Pension, Disability and Disability Insurance Committee of the Geneva-based International Social Security Association, established under the auspices of the International Labor Organization; Member of the ISSA Management Office, representing Europe, and Chair of the Steering Committee of the ISSA European Network; Member of the Social Affairs Council of the National Development Council to the President of Poland. 

From 2016 to 2024 she served as President of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), where she initiated introduction of ICT solutions, transforming ZUS into a modern e-administration. 

She has participated in the legislative process and implementation of key social and economic reforms. She is a co-author of the guidelines and projects for the COVID-19 (2020 – 2022) anti-crisis shield. She worked on legal solutions aimed at helping Ukrainian refugees and on implementing forms of support (2022-2023). 

Gertruda Uścińska has extensive teaching experience; she has been a promoter and reviewer of numerous bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral theses. She has delivered lectures in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, among others. 

She works as an expert in research programs of the EU universities and research institutes (universities of Antwerp and Ghent, Max Planck Institute and others), specializing in the implementation of EU programs (Consensus, Special, LAW, trESS, FreSsco), as well as manager of Polish and international research projects. 

She is an editor-in-chief of the “Social Security. Theory, Law, Practice.” journal and author of many publications on international law, social security law, European law and comparative social policy.
