On September 11-12, a two-day debate on the future of Polish science was held within the walls of Warsaw University. The congress brought together numerous representatives of universities and research institutions from all over Poland, including the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, as well as foreign experts who discussed prospects for international cooperation.
The event was attended by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Andrzej Szeptycki, who emphasized the important role of internationalization of science during the inauguration of the congress. – “Most of the contemporary challenges facing our society are global in nature. The Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the climate crisis or the development of artificial intelligence are problems that transcend national borders. International cooperation is therefore essential in the search for effective solutions.” – stated Deputy Minister Szeptycki.
The congress was a continuation of the debate started in the spring in Gdańsk. While the first edition of the congress focused on students, the second was dedicated to doctoral students. – “Doctoral students are very valuable to us, because they come here to create new knowledge. Faster issuance of visas and residence rights for them in Poland will remove professional and private barriers,” the deputy minister added.
Among the scientists who came from India, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Vietnam, Nigeria, Spain and Romania were those conducting research at Poland’s leading research centers, such as the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the Warsaw School of Agriculture and the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School. The program not only supports the development of their scientific careers, but also enriches the Polish academic community with valuable international perspectives.
The meeting emphasizing the importance of international relations in building the future of science was a testament to Poland’s openness to global cooperation and knowledge exchange.
The event was organized by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) and the National Science Center (NCN).
