Inauguration of the SGMK College in Toruń

The inauguration of the SGMK College of Astronomy and Natural Sciences in Toruń took place on Thursday, December 21, 2023. 

“We intend to create and use the conditions for cooperation that will be mutually beneficial for the astronomical and academic community in Poland,” announced the Dean of the College, Prof. Andrzej Niedzielski. 

The first admissions to the PhD School in Toruń will open in February 2024. The SGMK College of Astronomy and Natural Sciences is designed to be a symbol of scientific innovation and will be distinguished by its unique educational offer. Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School Dr. Piotr Turek declared that the university will provide “support and resources” for students “to develop their own start`ups. 

“We will take care of not only the theoretical side, but also the practical side. Our intention is that our best students and doctoral students will not have to go abroad, but that representatives of renowned international research centers will come to Poland to share their knowledge and offer teaching quality at the highest world level. This educational model has proven to be very effective. The SGMK colleges make a positive impression on foreign lecturers, and this pays off. At the MBA program “Banking and Financial System”, we already have 50 percent of the international staff,” said the SGMK Rector. 

Dr. Piotr Turek also announced that a unique project will be launched next year, which will comprehensively combine the activities of the five colleges. Details will be announced in mid-January 2024.
