Frequently honored, publishing in prestigious journals, they are authors of significant monographs and ambassadors of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy.
Harold James
Professor of European Studies at Princeton University, Professor of History and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School, and an associate at the Bendheim Center for Finance. His books include a study of the interwar depression in Germany, The German Slump (1986); an analysis of the changing character of national identity in Germany, A German Identity 1770-1990 (1989); International Monetary Cooperation Since Bretton Woods (1996), and The End of Globalization (2001), which is available in 8 languages. He was also co-author of a history of Deutsche Bank (1995), which won the Financial Times Global Business Book Award in 1996, and he wrote The Deutsche Bank and the Nazi Economic War Against the Jews (2001). His most recent books include Family Capitalism, Harvard University Press, 2006; The Creation and Destruction of Value: The Globalization Cycle, Harvard University Press, 2009; Making the European Monetary Union, Harvard University Press, 2012; The Euro and the Battle of Economic Ideas (with Markus K. Brunnermeier and Jean-Pierre Landau), Princeton University Press, 2016; Making A Modern Central Bank: The Bank of England 1979-2003, Cambridge University Press 2020; The War of Words: A Glossary of Globalization, Yale University Press 2021. He is the official historian of the International Monetary Fund. In 2004 he was awarded the Helmut Schmidt Prize for Economic History, and in 2005 the Ludwig Erhard Prize for writing about economics. He writes a monthly column for Project Syndicate.
Fabrizio Giulimondi
Marios Loukas obtained his MD degree from Warsaw University School of Medicine and a PhD in pathology from the Institute of Rheumatology at the Department of Pathology in Warsaw, Poland. He conducted post-doctoral research at Ulm University Clinic in Germany, focusing on arteriogenesis and angiogenesis projects.
Starting his academic journey at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Loukas served as a lecturer and laboratory instructor for the Human Body Course. In 2005, he joined St. George’s University (SGU) in Grenada, where he quickly rose to become Professor and Chair of the Department of Anatomical Sciences.
By 2008, he assumed the roles of Chair of the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Assistant Dean of Basic and Allied Health Sciences at SGU. Under his leadership, the department established innovative divisions of Ultrasound in Medical Education and Biomedical Visualization.
In 2012, Dr. Loukas took on the position of Dean of Research for the SGU School of Medicine, focusing on building a transdisciplinary research infrastructure. He aimed to foster translational research and bridge the gap between basic sciences and clinical departments to enhance student and faculty research.
In 2015, he was elected President of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. The same year, he was appointed Dean of Basic Sciences at the School of Medicine, and he also served as Vice Chair of the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions. In 2021, he became the Dean of the School of Medicine.
Dr. Loukas has an extensive publication record, with over 900 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 20 authored books, including well-known titles like Gray’s Anatomy Review and McMinn and Abrahams’ Clinical Atlas of Human Anatomy. He has contributed chapters to various medical and surgical textbooks, including Gray’s Anatomy. Additionally, he has played editorial roles for several journals and is the Co-Editor of Clinical Anatomy and the founding Editor-in-Chief of Translational Research in Anatomy.
Marios Loukas
Andrzej Rynkiewicz
M.D., Ph.D., born in 1952, distinguishedly graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical Academy of Gdańsk in 1977. He is a renowned specialist in internal medicine, cardiology, and hypertensiology. He achieved his habilitation in 1993 and was conferred the esteemed title of full professor in 1998. Throughout his illustrious tenure at the Medical Academy in Gdańsk, Professor Rynkiewicz served as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Cardiology AMG from 1999 to 2005. Subsequently, in 2005-2006, he ascended to the role of Director of the same institute. Moreover, between 1996 and 1999, he occupied the position of Vice-Dean of the Medical Faculty and from 1999 to 2002 functioned as the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. Andrzej Niedzielski
Professor, Ph.D., is a distinguished astronomer who received his education at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Since 2018, he has held the esteemed position of full professor at this prestigious institution. His primary expertise lies in observational astronomy, a field in which he has made numerous significant contributions. Since 2007, he has been dedicatedly searching for extrasolar planetary systems. Through collaboration with a dedicated team, he has successfully discovered nearly thirty such systems. One of the planetary systems identified by Professor Niedzielski was honored by the International Astronomical Union, allowing Poland the privilege of naming it. Through a national competition, the star was christened ‘Solaris’, while its accompanying planet was named ‘Pirx’.
Saša Horvat
Associate Professor Saša Horvat is a philosopher contributing to the intellectual landscape within the Department of Social Sciences and Medical Humanities at the esteemed Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, Croatia.Prof. Horvat’s portfolio reflects his profound engagement with diverse philosophical realms, ranging from neurophilosophy and the philosophy of science to the intricate intersections of philosophy with religion, cognitive science, medicine, ethics, autism and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Horvat has secured grants for various projects, garnering support from prestigious entities including the University of St Andrews / University of Oxford/ John Templeton Foundation / SET Foundations, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport in Croatia, and the University of Zagreb.His global reach is evident through scholarships received from international projects.
He is the author of two books: “Why do we Believe in God? Philosophical Foundations of Cognitive Science of Religion” (2023), and “Heidegger’s Notion of Oblivion” (2016), a profound exploration of Martin Heidegger’s philosophical legacy.In addition, prof. Horvat was a co-editor for five editions of scientific articles published by reputable publishers and has published numerous scientific articles. His involvement as a guest editor in distinguished scientific journals underscores his commitment to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.
Prof. Horvat is the member of the Editorial Board of “JAHR – European Journal of Bioethics” and serves as a member of the Advisory Board for “Scientia et Fides”.
Prof. Horvat is also the initiator and President of the Organizational Committee of the internationally recognized interdisciplinary conference “Rijeka Scientific Bridges,” facilitating the convergence of minds across various scientific and philosophical domains.
Mirosław Lenart
Professor, Ph.D., serves as the Dean of the College of Philosophy and Theology at the NICOLAUS COPERNICUS SUPERIOR SCHOOL in Krakow. He is also the Chair of the Department of Research on European Cultural Heritage at the University of Opole and the Rector of the Accademia dei Rampanti in Padua. An alumnus of the University of Opole’s Polish Studies and Theology at the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), Professor Lenart has been affiliated with Italian universities since 2001, imparting his expertise in Polish literature, language, history, and culture. Between 2006 and 2010, he lectured on Polish cultural history at the University of Padua.
He is a member of numerous international academic institutes and societies in Italy. Professor Lenart envisioned and initiated the establishment of an intellectual society, drawing inspiration from Renaissance academies and echoing the activities of Polish students in the Paduan contubernium polonorum. From 2012 to 2023, he directed the State Archives in Opole. Furthermore, between 2018 and 2022, he chaired the Polish Committee responsible for initiatives commemorating the 800th anniversary of the University of Padua.
Leon Podkaminer
Born in 1945 in Poland. He obtained a doctoral degree at Oxford University, and a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) at the Economic Academy in Kraków (now Krakow University of Economics). He worked at the Institute for Agricultural Economics at Oxford University and the Polish Academy of Science. He is a retired researcher at the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, with which he has been associated since 1993. His research focuses on economic policy, macroeconomic analysis, exchange rates, patterns of consumption, and relative prices. Countries of his expertise are Poland and the Czech Republic. He is an outstanding analyst of the convergence process of European economies at the turn of 20th and 21st centuries.
He was a participant of the “Round Table Negotiations” in 1989, which paved the way for Poland’s peaceful transition to democracy and the market economy. From 2006 through to 2009 he was a member of the Panel of Monetary Experts to the European Parliament. In December 2021 he was appointed Advisor to the Governor of Narodowy Bank Polski.
He has published extensively (eg. in The Review of Economics and Statistics, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Post Keynesian Economics, Metroeconomica, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro Quarterly Review).
Grażyna Ancyparowicz
Graduate of the Central School of Planning and Statistics (currently Warsaw School of Economics). In 1981, she received a doctorate degree and in 1987 she was conferred a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in Economics.
Until 2011, she combined her research work with work in government institutions, holding the position of department director in the Central Planning Office and then in the Central Statistical Office. In the years 1996-2002, she worked in one of the largest Polish financial corporations. She was awarded the silver and gold Cross of Merit for teaching achievements.
She specialises in macroeconomic issues, including general problems of finance. She is the author of several textbooks, several hundred articles, as well as dozens of reports and expert opinions. The most important publication in her work is considered to be the 2010 report “Open Pension Funds in the social security system” and “From neoliberalism to neo-colonialism. A quarter of a century of systemic transformation in Poland” published in 2015.
She is a member of the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.
On 30 January 2016, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland appointed Dr. Grażyna Ancyparowicz to the Monetary Policy Council.
