NCN 2024 Award winners announced

The National Science Center has announced the winners of the 2024 NCN Award, presented for outstanding scientific achievements to young researchers working in Polish research centers. The award ceremony took place on October 9 at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Kraków.

This year the awards went to:

  • Dr. Wiktor Lewandowski of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw, for his research in photonics and materials chemistry. His work contributes to the development of new optical and material technologies.
  • Prof. Marcin Magierowski of the Faculty of Medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College, for research in physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and gastroenterology. His findings have important implications for understanding and treating gastrointestinal diseases.
  • Dr. Błażej Skrzypulec of the Faculty of Philosophy at Jagiellonian University, for his research on the philosophy of perception, particularly the structural aspects of sensory experience. His work combines philosophical analyses with experimental results from cognitive science and cognitive psychology.

The NCN Award is the most prestigious award for young scientists conducting basic research up to 12 years post PhD. In this year’s edition, 150 candidates applied for the award, and the jury evaluating their achievements primarily applied guidelines of scientific excellence and international recognition. During the award gala, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwiak stressed that the selection of the winners was extremely difficult due to the high level of the submitted works. All of the awarded researchers have demonstrated outstanding achievements that have received international recognition.

We congratulate the laureates and wish them further success in their research contributing to the development of science and technology and increasing the prestige of Polish research centers in the world.
