One of the world’s most modern aviation plants opens in Środa Wielkopolska

GE Aerospace has announced the official opening of XEOS, a state-of-the-art aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Środa Śląska, near Wrocław, Poland.

The facility, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik, focuses on the overhaul and repair of CFM International LEAP engines, which power today’s most popular narrow-body aircrafts. These include CFM LEAP-1A engines for the Airbus A320neo family and CFM LEAP-1B engines for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The XEOS plant is currently conducting service overhauls of LEAP-1B engines, as well as supporting modular repairs and testing of LEAP-1A engines. In the coming months, the facility plans to introduce LEAP-1B test cell capabilities and further expand the facility’s repair and overhaul capabilities.

The XEOS plant is a 35,000-square-meter facility that includes an engine pre-inspection hall, a main hall for assembling and disassembling engines and modules, a state-of-the-art cleaning and inspection line, repair stations, a training center and an advanced test cell. The plant uses the latest best practices in lean design and operation, based on GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating system, FLIGHT DECK. It currently employs 250 people and the workforce is growing steadily.
