Prof. Nick Bostrom, founder and director of the Oxford University Future of Humanity Institute will lead a Q&A session at the Futurist of The Year 2024 congress

Nick Bostrom, a professor at Oxford University and founder and director of the Oxford University Future of Humanity Institute, is a Swedish philosopher specializing in theoretical physics, neuroinformatics, logic and artificial intelligence. He is the world’s most cited professional philosopher and the author of some 200 publications, including Anthropic Bias (2002), Global Catastrophic Risks (2008), Human Enhancement (2009) and the New York Times bestseller Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies(2014), which helped launch a global discussion on the future of AI. 

His books have been translated into more than 30 languages; he is a recurring speaker on the TED main stage; and he has given more than 1,000 media interviews around the world. He made Foreign Policy magazine’s Top 100 Global Thinkers list and was included in Prospect magazine’s World Thinkers list as the youngest person in the top 15. 

His work pioneered some of the ideas that are shaping the current thinking about the future of humanity (such as the concept of existential risk, the simulation argument, the vulnerable world hypothesis, the curse of unilateral action, etc.), and some of his recent work deals with the moral status of digital minds. 

Prof. Nick Bostrom will attend the Futurist of The Year 2024 science congress, which will be held April 9 -11, 2024 in Warsaw, Poland, and will lead a Q&A session followed by a discussion during his talk on the first day of the congress. Nick Bostrom is a Swedish philosopher specializing in theoretical physics, neuroinformatics, logic and artificial intelligence. He is the world’s most cited professional philosopher in the under-50 age group. He is a professor at Oxford University, where he heads the Institute for the Future of Humanity as its founder and director. 

He is the author of some 200 publications, including “Anthropic Bias” (2002),”Global Catastrophic Risks” (2008), “Human Enhancement” (2009), and the “New York Times” bestseller “Superintelligence: Pathways, Strategies, Threats” (2014), which helped start a global discussion on the future of AI. 

His work sparked some of the ideas that are shaping current thinking about the future of humanity (such as the concept of existential risk, the argument of the simulation, the vulnerable world hypothesis, the curse of unilateral action, etc.), while some of his more recent work deals with the moral status of digital minds.
