ORCID and PBN ACCOUNTS
Every doctoral student and researcher conducting research activities at Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School is required to create accounts in the following information systems:
- Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID)
- Polish Scientific Bibliography (PBN).
Failure to do so will have a negative impact on the evaluation of SGMK’s scientific activities. If you have any questions or need assistance in setting up your accounts, please contact us at: orcid@sgmk.edu.pl.
Each doctoral student and researcher should also connect their ORCID and PBN accounts:
Your Polish Scientific Bibliography (PBN) account should be linked to your ORCID account.
- In your ORCID account, you should:
- list “Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School” as the affiliation/place of employment,
- set visibility settings to “everyone” (public profile).
Please make sure to enter your ORCID ID into the SGMK Library system.
If you do not have the above accounts, please urgently complete the registration and account linkage procedure.
ORCiD
What is ORCiD?
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a digital identifier that enables researchers to be uniquely identified in electronic resources. It helps solve the problem of duplicate author names, different name spellings and clarifies the identity of the researcher.
According to the draft regulation of the new Law on Higher Education and Science, ORCID is a mandatory element in the parametric evaluation process. All research staff must have this unique identifier, which is also required in the parametric evaluation of research units.
The ORCID identifier consists of 16 digits divided into 4 parts, stored in the form of an HTTP URL (e.g. http://orcid.org/0000-0072-45-3528 ). The author’s profile includes a brief description of the scientist, keywords, the author’s or institution’s website, identifiers in other systems, and a list of publications, projects and grants.
ORCID Inc. is a non-profit organization based in the United States, governed by a Board of Directors elected from among representatives of member organizations. It includes representatives of the scientific community, associations, publishers, IT companies and others.
Who can establish an ORCID iD?
- Research and teaching staff
- Doctoral students
- Students
- All those interested in science
What is the purpose of having an ORCID iD?
Easy identification of scientific achievements: quick and precise assignment of works to a particular scientist
Facilitating the identification of authors: especially in cases of name changes or use of diacritical marks, distinguishing the output of scientists in the same field and consolidation of works after a change of affiliation
Simplifying procedures: easier registration when sending articles to publishers (e.g., IEEE, Wiley, Springer) and submitting grant applications, e.g., to the HORIZONT 2020 program
Enabling automatic data exchange: synchronization of the researcher’s profile in ORCiD with profiles in Web of Science (ResearcherID) and Scopus databases.
How to set up ORCID iD?
- Go to https://orcid.org/register
- Click “Register now!” on the home page or select “Sign in” and then “Register now!”.
- Fill out the registration form according to the instructions.
- Determine who can see your profile:
everyone – public profile (visible to everyone),
trusted parties – by invitation only (visible to selected recipients),
only me – private profile (visible only to the profile owner).
For ORCiD to function effectively, it is recommended to select “everyone” or “trusted parties”.
A message will be sent to the email address you provided, requesting email address confirmation.
Complete the profile with biographical data, information on education, place of employment and projects and grants in which you have participated. Add your publications.

To register an account:
- Go to the PBN website
- Click the “Register” button
- Fill out the registration form
- Activate the account
Linking a Polish Scientific Bibliography account with an ORCID account:
