Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), in cooperation with international partners, conducted the world’s first transcontinental demonstration of hybrid computing. The demonstration, which combined quantum and classical technologies, took place at two sites in Poland and the US, connected by encrypted PQC/QKD links.
During the recently concluded SC24 conference (17-22.11.2024) in Atlanta, the world’s first demonstration was held, using two quantum-classical testbeds. One was located at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center in Poznan, the other at the PSNC booth at the Atlanta conference. The stations were connected via the PIONIER, GÉANT, SURF/NetherLight, NEA3R, ESnet, Internet2, NA-REX, StarLight and SCinet production networking infrastructure.
The purpose of the presentation was to present a number of integration and use cases of hybrid quantum-classical computing QPU+CPU+GPU. Quantum-classical computing testbeds located at remote ends – the PSNC office and the SC24 conference venue, were connected by a dedicated classical direct link, which is additionally secured by PQC encryption and QKD technology. On the long-distance link, data b encrypted using the PQC algorithm, and locally at the PSNC office and SC24 using a short QKD link.
